I’m Alison Penning.

I’m a Canadian-American, Baltimore-based artist, art teacher, and gardener.

I’m the head and hands of Snail House Studio—and I’m glad that you are here!

I make functional pottery and sculptural ceramics out of the Potters Guild of Baltimore and in my small home studio. My work is driven by my interests in color, pattern, and form; and by my obsession with domestic spaces, wild places, and the gardens in between. My ceramics practice is ever-evolving and integral to my happiness, both a serious endeavor and a opportunity for playful exploration.

My work brings me joy and it is a joy to share it.
